Using Your FTP(File Transfer Protocol)

Although these examples are WS_FTP many others are similar.
The first thing you need to do before you can start uploading your files to your domain is set-up your FTP program so you can access the server FTP port...So let's get started.

Click "NEW" then fill in the boxes below:

Profile- This can be most anything you wish, the name of your domain, or your favorite cookie...just so you remember what it is.

Next fill in your host address- www.your domain name.com

The host type can be: auto detect...if you do not have auto detect select UNIX(std).

Next Your user name: John Doe

Then your user password: *********

Next click on your start-up tab at the top and direct your FTP client to your
"ROOT DIRECTORY AND WEB FOLDER"

Click "APPLY" and you are ready to go.

Once you have signed on to your FTP make sure you are in your"root directory".
This is very important as if your files are not placed in the "web" folder in the "root directory"
your site will not display!

You place all your files and folders inside of the "web folder" on the root directory

This is a view from inside your "web folder" on the "root directory"

It is here that you would upload your files, folders, create folders, and create your cgi-bin folder should you wish to have one. Be sure to have a index.html page in at least your "root/web folder" and it is a good idea to have one in all folders to keep nosy people from seeing listings of the contents of your folders.

These are examples of WS_FTP...there are many different FTP programs available. If your FTP program appears different than these examples refer to your help pages for your FTP program.
